Before you choose 5 kW

  • For a home, the subsidy is capped at ₹78,000, the same as 3 kW, whether on-grid or hybrid.
  • A 5 kW system needs 5 kW of sanctioned load. If yours is lower, PSPCL load enhancement comes first, before the subsidy application.
  • Not sure? Enter your bill in the calculator. It recommends the smallest system that does the job.

5 kW system: questions we are asked

What is the price of a 5 kW solar system in Punjab?

A on-grid 5 kW system costs ₹2,75,000 – 3,00,000 installed. After the PM Surya Ghar subsidy of ₹78,000, a home pays ₹1,97,000 – 2,22,000. A hybrid system with a battery costs ₹3,58,000 and is subsidised the same way; an off-grid system costs ₹3,70,000 – 4,20,000 and does not qualify for the subsidy. The final price depends on the roof, the mounting structure, cable runs and the panel model.

How much subsidy do I get on a 5 kW system?

₹78,000 for a home, whether the system is on-grid or hybrid — RSK's hybrid systems are grid-tied and net-metered, so they qualify the same way on-grid does. The subsidy is capped at ₹78,000 from 3 kW upwards. It is paid into your bank account 30 to 45 days after PSPCL inspects the system, not deducted from the price. Off-grid systems, businesses and industry do not get it; housing societies get ₹18,000 per kW for common facilities.

How many units does a 5 kW solar system generate in Punjab?

About 510 units a month, or 6,120 a year, at the conservative figure we use for estimates. Output is higher from March to June and lower in December and January and on hazy days.

How much roof space does a 5 kW system need?

About 500 sq ft of shade-free roof, at roughly 100 sq ft per kW including access space between rows.

What sanctioned load do I need for a 5 kW system?

At least 5 kW. In Punjab a rooftop system cannot exceed your sanctioned load, which is printed on your electricity bill. If yours is lower, apply to PSPCL for load enhancement before applying for the subsidy.

Is 5 kW the right size for my home?

For a general-category home, a 5 kW system brings net use under the 300-unit line for homes using roughly 659 to 760 units a month, which takes the bill to zero. Enter your own bill in the calculator on our website to check.
