Hybrid solar systems with battery backup
Solar that cuts your bill and keeps the lights on when PSPCL supply goes off. Worth it when power cuts genuinely cost you something; overkill when they do not.

How a hybrid system works
A hybrid system has panels, a hybrid inverter, a battery bank and a connection to PSPCL. During the day, solar runs your home and charges the batteries. When the grid fails, the inverter switches your backed-up circuits to the batteries. When the sun is down and the batteries are low, the grid takes over.
UTL’s hybrid inverters let you choose the priority. The Heliac range, for example, can run in a PCU mode (solar, then battery, then grid) or a smart mode (solar, then grid, then battery), so you decide whether the batteries are for daily savings or kept full for cuts.
Hybrid systems we install
RSK installs hybrid systems from 1 kW upwards.
| Kit | Inverter | Panels | Batteries | Average generation |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1kW/24V Hybrid Solar System | Gamma Plus 112 | 335Watt x 3No’s | UST1560 x 1nos | 4 units per day |
| 2kW/48V Hybrid Solar System | Sigma248 | 335Watt x 6No’s | UST1560 x 4no | 8 units per day |
| 3kW/48V Hybrid Solar System | Sigma348 | 335Watt x 9No’s | UST1560 x 4no | 12 units per day |
| 5kW/96V Hybrid Solar System | Sigma596 | 335Watt x 16No’s | UST1560 x 8no | 20 units per day |
The generation figures are UTL’s own. For comparison, our calculator uses a more conservative 102 units per kW a month.
When a hybrid system is worth it
- Power cuts cost you money. A clinic, a home office, a shop that stops trading, or someone at home who depends on medical equipment.
- You also want to cut the bill. A hybrid system still generates your daytime power.
- You accept a higher price than on-grid. Batteries add cost upfront and again when they need replacing. The PM Surya Ghar subsidy still applies — up to ₹78,000 for a home — but it does not cover the battery.
If power cuts are only an occasional nuisance, an on-grid system with the subsidy plus a small inverter-battery for the essentials is often cheaper. We will tell you which way the numbers fall for your connection.
What a hybrid system actually costs
Real pricing for the lithium hybrid kits we install most often — panels, hybrid inverter, 51.2V/100Ah lithium battery, mounting structure, DC and AC wiring, earthing, ACDB+DCDB, lightning arrester, cable tray, changeover switch, labour and net metering, all included:
| System | Installed price | PM Surya Ghar subsidy | Your cost after subsidy |
|---|---|---|---|
| 3 kW hybrid | ₹2,78,010 | − ₹78,000 | ₹2,00,010 |
| 5 kW hybrid | ₹3,58,030 | − ₹78,000 | ₹2,80,030 |
| 6 kW hybrid | ₹3,88,320 | − ₹78,000 | ₹3,10,320 |
These are confirmed prices from RSK’s own itemised quotes, not estimates. You pay the full amount first; the subsidy reaches your bank account 30–45 days after the DISCOM inspection.
Backup is sized to loads, not to the whole house
Batteries that could run air conditioners through a long cut would be very large and expensive. Most hybrid systems back up a chosen set of circuits. Before we quote, we ask what must stay on during a cut and for how long, and size the battery bank to that.
Questions we are asked
How long will the batteries run my house?
It depends on what you run during a cut and the battery bank size. A hybrid system is normally set up to back up chosen loads, such as lights, fans, the fridge, Wi-Fi and a computer, rather than air conditioners. Tell us what must stay on and for how long, and we size the batteries to that.
Does a hybrid system get the PM Surya Ghar subsidy?
Yes. The subsidy is for grid-connected, net-metered systems — RSK's hybrid systems are grid-tied with a battery added, not disconnected from PSPCL, so they qualify the same way on-grid does, up to ₹78,000 for a home. Off-grid is the one that does not qualify, because it has no grid connection at all.
How often do the batteries need replacing?
Batteries wear out long before panels do. UTL lists warranties on its batteries; for example the tubular batteries in the 3 kW kit carry a 5-year warranty in UTL’s listing. Plan for at least one battery replacement during the life of the panels.
Can I add batteries to my on-grid system later?
Only if the inverter supports it. A standard on-grid inverter cannot run batteries; you would need a hybrid inverter. If you think you will want backup later, tell us before you buy.
