The subsidy is not the deciding factor anymore

It used to be common advice that hybrid loses the PM Surya Ghar subsidy, making the battery’s cost even harder to justify. That is not RSK’s position: our hybrid systems are grid-tied and net-metered, not disconnected from PSPCL, so they receive the same subsidy as on-grid — up to ₹78,000 for a home. The subsidy question should not be what decides between the two; the battery’s real value should be.

What actually costs more, and why

The battery bank is the added cost over an equivalent on-grid system. It is not a fixed percentage markup — it scales with the battery capacity chosen, which depends on what you need to keep running during a cut and for how long. The question that actually decides it

Not “can I afford the extra cost” but “does a power cut genuinely cost me something.” A clinic that cannot lose power mid-procedure, a home office that loses a working day, a shop that stops trading — these are real costs a battery buys protection against. An occasional, tolerable inconvenience is a different calculation: the same money might be better spent on a bigger on-grid system, or simply saved.

Sizing the battery to the loads, not the whole house

A battery that could run air conditioners through a long cut would be very large and expensive. Most hybrid systems back up a chosen set of circuits — lights, fans, the fridge, Wi-Fi, a computer — rather than the entire house. Before we quote, we ask what has to stay on during a cut and for how long, and size the battery to that answer specifically.

An honest middle ground

If cuts are only occasional, an on-grid system with the full subsidy, plus a small separate inverter-battery for just the essentials, is often cheaper than a full hybrid system sized for everything.
