People ask about hybrid solar more than any other system type on this site, and behind most of those questions is the same one: is the battery worth what it adds to the price?

The subsidy is the same for both

It used to be common advice that hybrid systems lose the PM Surya Ghar subsidy, which made the battery even harder to justify. Our hybrid systems stay connected to PSPCL through a net meter, so they get the same subsidy as on-grid, up to ₹78,000 for a home. That leaves one thing to decide: how much the battery is worth to you.

What costs more, and why

The battery bank is the extra cost over an equivalent on-grid system. There’s no fixed percentage markup. It grows with the battery capacity, which depends on what you need to keep running during a cut and for how long. Our itemised hybrid prices for 3, 5 and 6 kW systems come from actual quotes.

Does a power cut cost you anything?

Ask whether a power cut costs you something, as well as whether you can afford the extra. A clinic that can’t lose power mid-procedure, a home office that loses a working day and a shop that stops trading all face real costs that a battery protects against. If a cut is an occasional, bearable nuisance, the same money might go further on a bigger on-grid system, or simply stay in the bank.

Size the battery to the loads you need

A battery that could run air conditioners through a long cut would be very large and very expensive. Most hybrid systems back up a chosen set of circuits instead, such as lights, fans, the fridge, the Wi-Fi and a computer. A cheaper middle ground

If cuts are only occasional, an on-grid system with the full subsidy plus a small separate inverter-battery for the essentials often costs less than a full hybrid system. We’ll show you which works out cheaper for your situation.
