The price per kW differs by 27% between these quotes. A gap that size usually means they are not quoting the same panels, inverter, structure or scope, so check those before comparing price.

Installer A: what to ask

Everything on the checklist is covered.

Installer B: what to ask

  • Ask whether the panels are DCR and ALMM-listed. Without that, no subsidy.
  • Panel warranty not stated. Ask for the manufacturer warranty in writing.
  • Inverter warranty not stated.
  • Not mentioned: PM Surya Ghar portal application.
  • Not mentioned: Earthing and lightning arrester.
  • Not mentioned: AC and DC distribution boxes with protection.
  • Not mentioned: Cable sizes and cable route.
  • Not mentioned: Inverter monitoring (app or display).
  • Not mentioned: Manufacturer warranty terms in writing.
  • Not mentioned: After-sales visits and who to call.

Get a quote to compare

Send us the same details and we quote the same scope, item by item, with the panels, inverter and structure named.

This compares what you entered. It does not judge the installers, and a low price per kW is only good value if the panels, inverter, structure and service are the same.

How it works it out

  1. Price per kW is the quoted price divided by the size, the fairest single figure for comparing.
  2. The subsidy is the PM Surya Ghar amount for a home system of that size, ₹30,000 per kW for the first 2 kW and ₹18,000 for the third, up to ₹78,000. It counts only if the panels are DCR and the system is on-grid or hybrid.
  3. Our estimate is RSK Solar Energy's published price range for that size and type, shown for reference.
  4. The checklist is what a complete quote should spell out. Anything unticked is listed as a question to ask.

Questions we are asked

How do I compare solar quotes fairly?

Compare the price per kW, then check that each quote names the same things: the panel make and model, whether the panels are DCR, the inverter make and model, the structure, the protection, the paperwork and the after-sales service. A cheaper quote that leaves out any of these is not the same system.

Why does DCR matter for the subsidy?

The PM Surya Ghar subsidy, up to ₹78,000 for a home, needs DCR panels from the ALMM list. A quote with non-DCR panels can look cheaper, but the subsidy is lost, and it cannot be fixed after installation.

Is the subsidy taken off the quoted price?

No. You pay the installer the full price, and the subsidy is paid into your own bank account 30 to 45 days after the DISCOM inspection. The tool shows your cost after the subsidy so the quotes compare on the same footing.

Are my quotes stored anywhere?

No. The comparison runs in your browser and nothing is sent to us unless you choose to send it on WhatsApp. The figures sit in the page address, so you can bookmark or share the result.
